چکیده
BACKGROUND The association between lipid peroxidation biomarkers and adipocytokines is hypothesized in preeclampsia but little is known about it. OBJECTIVE he present study was undertaken to determine the association of lipid peroxidation biomarkers measured by the levels of 8-isoprostane and malondialdehyde with adipocytokines leptin and adiponectin in maternal serum of preeclamptic women. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional study was designed. The study population consisted of 30 preeclamptic patients and 30 healthy pregnant women. Serum levels of 8-Isoprostane, total leptin and total adiponectin were assessed using commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay methods. The amount of malondialdehyde was determined by the thiobarbituric acid assay. Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman's correlation coefficient were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS Both 8-Isoprostane and malondialdehyde were significantly higher in preeclamptic group than those in normal pregnant women. Serum levels of leptin were significantly increased in preeclamptic patients compared with normal group, while adiponectin levels were decreased. Serum levels of 8-Isoprostane and malondialdehyde did not show any significant correlation with leptin and adiponectin. CONCLUSION In preeclamptic women, maternal serum levels of leptin and adiponectin were not correlated with lipid peroxidation.

Studies on Oxidative stress in Preeclampsia
The aetio-pathogenesis of preeclampsia, a complication of pregnancy, is poorly understood. Oxidative stress has been shown to be the causative factor for hypertension as well as for target tissue damage in hypertension. Studies that explain the role of oxidative stress in preeclampsia have been few in number. The present study was aimed at (1) determining the extent of oxidative stress in preec...
متن کاملThe plasma membrane Ca2+-ATPase protein from red blood cells is not modified in preeclampsia.
Plasma membrane Ca2+-ATPase activity diminishes by about 50% in red blood cells during preeclampsia. We investigated whether the number of Ca2+-ATPase molecules is modified in red cell membranes from preeclamptic pregnant women by measuring the specific phosphorylated intermediate of this enzyme. Also, we isolated the Ca2+-ATPase protein from both normotensive and preeclamptic pregnant women an...

متن کاملStudy of plasma factors associated with neutrophil activation and lipid peroxidation in preeclampsia.
Neutrophil activation occurs in women with preeclampsia and is resolved after delivery. The present study examined whether circulating factors in plasma of women with preeclampsia caused neutrophil activation and lipid peroxidation. Twenty-one women with proteinuric preeclampsia were matched for age and gestational age with 19 normal pregnant women. Plasma was collected from all subjects before...

Background : Preeclampsia is a major cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. The aim of the present study was to assess serum levels of isoprostane F2α, malondialdehyde and total homocysteine in preeclamptic women compared with normal pregnant women. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed. The patients consisted of 30 preeclamptic women. The normal group c...
